In 2010, two important projects in Haiti were born: the Women's Community Garden Project and The Mangrove Coastal Reforestation Project.
The Women's Community Garden Project provided the population of the village of Derac, Haiti with the much needed environmental tools to sustain their dietary needs and teach the 150 women involved in this project how to create a self-sustaining collective community garden that can provide sufficient nutrition for themselves their families, and the larger community.
The Mangrove Coastal Reforestation Project planted 10,000 mangrove trees on 4 km of coast in the of Bas Limbe resulting in the creation of a nursery for 50,000 trees capacity per year and ensuring the protection of the mangrove forest. During this project, the population (more than 15,000) was educated on the protection of the environment, tree production , the management of the natural resources, the management of a community base organization while providing a sustainable income source for the fisthermen.
The committee attending the conference to accept the Award in Arlington Virginia on March 5th included: Dan Warren, GFLSCI Environmental Chair and One Village Planet Founder, Danielle Warren, Founder of The Women's Community Garden, Odule Augustin, GFLSCI Cap Haitian Chair in Haiti and Project Manager, Antonio Marcelli, GFLSCI Country Chair for Haiti and the Humanitarian Committee, Cris Boehler, SCI Florida State Representative and Russell Weaver, Country Chair for Brazil and Co-Chair for Taiwan.
